Monopoly Framing

2024-02-24

Method Summary

Frame the house with a continuous air barrier around the whole house.

This image from Matt Risinger shows the ZIP System sheathing running up the wall and on the roof. The transition between is taped to make it airtight.

The overhangs are then attached on top of the sheathing, as can be seen here:

Modified Monopoly Framing

This method modifies the "pure" method but uses traditional trusses and then puts the sheathing on the underside of the overhanging trusses. These are then taped with the sheathing on the walls to create a continuous air barrier.

The interior cavity could be filled with spray foam or dense-packed cellulose.

The modified version allows the usage of traditional framing techniques, making it easier for contractors and reducing costs.
